Guess what, Kpop lovers? Billboard just dropped their favorite Kpop songs of the year, with NewJeans at the top spot! With this, not only does the girl band show their true star power, but it shows Kpop as a whole it is not here for 15 minutes of international fame, oh no! This music genre is here to stay, with some quality content, amazing vocals, sharp choreos, and explosive videos.
The magazine mentioned “chart-topping groups and acts” and divided them into different styles. For example, they described groups like Stray Kids, iKON, IVE and LE SSERAFIM as idols with “tracks that blasted as easily out of speakers as they did onto international playlists.” Then, they praised NewJeans, ENHYPEN, RIIZE and Jay Park for bringing the R&B and indie vibes.
But that wasn’t all, they also praised artists like BTS’ Jimin and Jungkook, FIFTY FIFTY, and ZEROBASEONE for their musical versatility, as well as for their capacity to drop successful bops in both Korean and English. Because that’s right, as wide as the word “Kpop” is, it can encompass artists that sing in those languages. No doubt, Kpop is just growing more and more with idols seeing the appeal in singing for fans in different tongues.
