BTS have always been at the forefront of quality and success in the Kpop scene as they became one of the greatest exponents of the genre worldwide. Since the boy band started their hiatus due to their military duties with their country, some of the members released solo projects, which received both critical acclaim and success.
Despite those amazing feats, BTS’ Jimin and Suga failed to win an award at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, and their fans, better known as ARMY, couldn’t contain their emotions and expressed their discontent on social media.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards took place on November 19 in the show where numerous idols were nominated inside the four Kpop categories. ARMY was eagerly waiting for this event, as Suga was nominated for “Top K-Pop Touring Artist,” Jimin for “Top Global K-Pop Artist,” Jimin’s “Like Crazy” for “Top Global K-Pop Song” and “Top Selling Song,” Jungkook‘s “Seven (feat. Latto)” for “Top Global K-Pop Song,” and Jimin’s FACE for “Top K-Pop Album.”
BTS’ Jungkook was the only one who won his nomination and made history as the only Korean soloist to win an award. However, BTS’ Jimin and Suga didn’t receive the recognition that ARMY was asking for.
ARMY stated the awards don’t reflect BTS’ success because Suga’s tour sold out in a matter of minutes and this would be enough to award him. In addition, they emphasized the show was rigged and the boys were completely snubbed.
