Soyeon of (G)I-DLE is one of the best rappers in Kpop, no questions asked! Don’t believe us? Well, let’s start with the fact that Soyeon is the leader of (G)I-DLE herself and is responsible for most of her rap lines in every song. As if this wasn’t enough, she also takes charge of musical production.
But before Soyeon became the leader of one of Kpop’s biggest groups and got to create her own music, she was a trainee. Actually, she had to audition for her current agency, Cube Entertainment, with a Nicki Minaj song. Yes, you read that right! Our leader decided to impress with some fire verses made by the queen of rap herself.
Flashback to 2014: the then 16-year-old Soyeon decided to audition for Cube Entertainment with Nicki Minaj’s verse in “Monster,” and she definitely convinced whoever was judging her performance! After that, she officially became a trainee and started working on her artistic skills to debut as part of (G)I-DLE.
But wonder how we got to know this story? That’s because Soyeon spilled the tea on this story during an interview she recently had with the REACT YouTube Channel. As part of the occasion, the (G)I-DLE members were invited to play the “Try Not To Sing” challenge. Basically, if they sang or danced to any of the songs that were played, they would lose. Tough game for a music lover, right?
The interviewer prepared a set of 2010s pop and Kpop songs to play, and let’s say the (G)I-DLE girls did pretty terribly! They couldn’t help but dance and sing the songs they were listening to. But plot twist! Once “Monster” was over, Soyeon confessed she’d rapped Nicki Minaj’s verse during her audition. But don’t get too excited, she doesn’t remember a word of the song now!
