The movie industry has always faced barrier languages across the world and Film title changes have become a common practice in foreign markets in order to make successful movies in various countries. Marvel Studios has not been the exception to this rule and changed ‘The Marvels’ name in China to avoid failure.
Marvel Studios finally brought Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to China last year, marking a new start with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which suffered a title change to 黑豹2 (Black Panther 2) in order to make clear it was a direct sequel. These changes were also suffered by ‘The Marvels.’
‘The Marvels’ promotion has taken the world and a new poster released in China gave evidence of the retitle. The movie is going to be released under the title of 惊奇队长2 which translates to Captain Marvel 2.
Marvel Studios’ main reason to retitle the movie was based on the impressive $155 million dollars in China, which consecrated it as an important territory to promote their movies. However, other movies’ sequels such as Ant-Man and the Wasp and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever met failure in the Chinese market and became a concern for the franchise.
‘The Marvels’ title change is an attempt to avoid failure and gives clarity it is going to be the direct sequel from Captain Marvel. This decision is meant to help the box office from the movies in China and end the bad strike with previous movies in the Asian country. ‘The Marvels’ is going to premiere on November 10, you can watch the trailer below:
