It is not the first time we hear that there are directors and masters of the film industry who do not agree with superhero movies, even, there are actors who have embodied these characters who would agree, but one of the most controversial opinions is undoubtedly that of veteran actor, Martin Scorsese.
There are many movie genres, but undoubtedly, one of the most punished is the superhero action movies, since they have been categorized from the beginning, claiming that they should not be considered cinema, being this something very controversial.
Martin Scorsese is totally against superhero movies and franchises such as Marvel.
Martin Scorsese is an extremely well known, famous and relevant film director to the industry, so reading things where he disagrees must have great weight and importance in the industry.
Martin Scorsese, praised for directing ‘Shutter Island’, ‘Goodfellas’, ‘Taxi Driver’, gave a strong statement against these films stating that ‘it is not cinema’ and that according to him it is as if ‘AI is making these films’.
The director was concerned about what these productions mean for the film industry and even more about the danger that is being created in young people who grew up with them.
‘It is dangerous what they are doing to our culture. Now there will be generations who think that movies are just that, in fact they already do, which means we have to act much more forcefully,’ Martin said.
And he went on to say ‘and that has to come from the grassroots, from the filmmakers themselves, there will be the Safdie brothers and Christopher Nolan, you know what I mean, we have to attack from all sides and not give up, we have to reinvent ourselves’.
What do you think about it? Do you think Martin Scorsese’s opinion is accurate or is he exaggerating?
