The well-known superhero franchise DC Extende Universe, which has already come to an end, was at the time highly criticized and accused of trying to copy, without success, its greatest competition, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however in recent days a screenwriter of this film company has confirmed it.
This is David S. Goyer, a filmmaker, novelist and comic book writer, who worked on major projects such as ‘Man of Steel‘ and ‘Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice‘, who in a recent interview with the Variety magazine made clear the intentions of the film company
“I know the pressure we were getting from Warner Bros., which was, ‘We need our MCU! We need our MCU!’ And I was like, ‘let’s not run before we walk’. The other thing that was difficult at the time was that there was this revolving door of Warner Bros. and DC executives. Every 18 months someone new came in. We were suffering from whiplash. Every new person was like, ‘Let’s get bigger!’“.
“I remember at one point the person who was running Warner Bros. at the time had this schedule that laid out the next 20 movies over the next 10 years. But none of them had been written yet! It was crazy to see how much architecture was being built in the air… That’s not how you build a house“.
Despite some successes that the company had, it has faced different criticism for problems of cohesion and continuity in its shared narrative, in addition to trying to have a style that would differentiate it from its competition, it earned more criticism for its lack of humor and excess of drama.
Beyond all the criticisms, it is expected that in the new stage of this universe, now as the DCU directed by James Gunn, it will manage to re-emerge without making the same mistakes.
