RM, leader and member of the K-Pop group BTS, has been involved in a scandal and receiving harsh criticism after he shared a song on his social networks that has angered his fans and netizens around the world, for being supposedly an “islamophobic” song.
It all happened when in recent days, the K-Pop rapper shared a track of a song on his instagram, which is normal for him, however this song is ‘Bad Religion‘ from Frank Ocean‘s debut album, which according to many fans and netizens alludes negatively to the Islamic religion.
The lyrics of the song released in 2012 talk about an unrequited love with a taxi driver, but several lines of it were very controversial at the time, among some of them is:
“And you say ‘Allahu Akbar’, I told him, ‘Don’t curse me’ ‘Bo Bo, you need prayer’, I guess he couldn’t hurt me, if he brings me to my knees, it’s a bad religion“.
In particular, the phrase “if he brings me to my knees” could be referring to the Islam religion, which dictates that you should pray on your knees. Because of this, many fans and netizens have criticized the fact that the South Korean artist shares these types of songs.
“RM shared an islamophobic song on his instagram and i’m talking about me and muslims this is embarrassing because he is a UNICEF ambassador who is supposed to fight racism and not support and what is happening now is he? Openly insulting Islam?“, was one of the comments disagreeing with the idol’s action.
"Many people confuse Frank Ocean's choice of example and the title of the song as a diss towards Islam because he sings "Allahu Akbar," which is Arabic for "God is great," and then goes on to sing "but don't curse me," in reply to the Taxi driver that is praying an Islamic prayer… pic.twitter.com/mE182v66QW
