The highly anticipated film was released on august 11th, barely 3 days ago, and there’s already talk about a second movie. Red White & Royal Blue is the film adaptation of the 2019 romantic comedy with the same name, by Casey McQuiston, and even though the movie covered all the plot in the book, there’s a lot of people asking for the continuation, and the director, Matthew Lopez, has been teasing fans about it.

The movie shows a complicated gay love story between the First Son of the United States and the prince of England, in the typical format of the ‘enemies to lovers’ plot, though it has a lot of variables added to keep the movie entertaining, for instance, princes aren’t allowed to be gay, as mentioned in the movie. The actors that play Alex, the first son, and the prince Henry, Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitizine respectively, have been widely praised for their chemistry in the movie, something rarely seen for LGBT+ productions. According to Lopez, the chemistry between them was the final push that the movie needed to get a green light and become a reality.

Red White & Royal Blue became an instant hit on the only streaming platform where it’s available, Prime Video, as it reportedly hit the #1 spot in the popularity charts of 88 countries, which is impressive considering that it’s not available in a lot of countries, and its LGBTQ+ theme. Matthew Lopez made mention of the success of the production, and told the GAY TIMES magazine during an interview that ‘if people like the movie, if it’s successful and people want more, who am I to deny them?’

The debuting director, openly gay, claims that even though there is no confirmation, there are ideas for a continuation of the love story of the two most relevant sons in the world. He even joked that the staff members were throwing titles for a sequel at him, such as ‘Red White & Royal Wedding’.
