The great success of the movie ‘Barbie‘ is a fact that has dominated the entire film industry, however there was a country in particular that this long-awaited live action of the famous Mattel doll failed to cause any kind of emotion in its audience, so it ended up being a failure at the box office.
Less than a month after being released on the big screen, the Warner movie has already managed to raise a billion dollars worldwide, which makes it very close to becoming the highest grossing movie of this year, about to surpass ‘Mario Bros: The Movie‘ which grossed $1.3 billion.
Despite its imminent success in a large part of the world, there was a market that it failed to dominate, it is South Korea, which, although it has shown to be fans of American films, this one in particular did not have the reception it expected, and has been considered a “commercial failure“.
According to film experts, the box office of this production in the Asian country is a complete disappointment that until now has only managed to capture 3.8% of the tickets, and taking into account other films already released, ‘Barbie’ is losing the race.
Thus making South Korea one of the few large markets in which ‘Barbie’ has failed to be a box office success, quite the contrary.
This could be because the country’s feminist stance is considered a “radical” and “abhorrent” rebellion, so there wouldn’t be much interest in seeing a film that fully represents this important movement.
