Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, president of Portugal, recently arrived in the United Kingdom to have a meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. However, there is currently a lot of controversy regarding the way de Sousa looked at Charles at one point of the tense encounter which the international media was able to capture on camera.

After the king welcomed the president at the palace, both gentlemen took a couple of photos together, witnessed the detachment of the King’s Guard on the forecourt, and then attended a Service of Thanksgiving at The Queen’s Chapel.

Upon arriving at the chapel, King Charles III and the president of Portugal were received by members of the British and Portuguese Armed Forces, reverend Paul Stephen Wright LVO, and Dr. Maria Joao Rodrigues de Araújo who is in charge of the Portugal-UK 650 commemoration which celebrates the 650th anniversary of the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance and that is called the “world’s oldest alliance.”

However, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was captured on camera looking at King Charles III in a way that has been deemed controversial and is currently gaining a lot of attention from the international media. According to several tabloids, the president of Portugal looked at Charles with disdain but this is just speculation.
