Prince Harry testified before the London High Court as part of the lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers for allegedly hacking his phone and revealing private information about it. As part of his testimony, and for the very first time, he had the opportunity of addressing a rumor that has been around since he was a teenager and that claims that King Charles III is not his biological father.
Back in the day, there were several rumors, spread by tabloids under Mirror Group Newspapers, regarding the possibility that the Duke of Sussex’s father could be commander James Hewitt as the late Princess Diana had an affair with him just after Harry was born and this rumor has followed him throughout all his life and has caused him a considerable amount of distress as he lives with the fear that it was, somehow, true.
“Numerous newspapers had reported a rumor that my biological father was James Hewitt, a man my mother had a relationship with after I was born. At the time, when I was 18 years old and had lost my mother just six years earlier, stories such as this felt very damaging and very real to me.”
Prince Harry openly accused Mirror Group Newspapers of being responsible for coming up with the rumor and spreading it: “They were hurtful, mean, and cruel. I was always left questioning the motives behind the stories. Were the newspapers keen to put doubt into the minds of the public so I might be ousted from the Royal Family?”
Although it took him several years, Harry was finally able to stand up for his mother as her reputation was highly damaged when the stories of her affairs first came out. Several people were against his appearance in court but he used it as the perfect opportunity to put an end to this specific topic that has been haunting him for years.
