Mirror Group Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mirror, has officially apologized to Prince Harry for spying on him for almost 16 years. The apology could mean that some of Harry’s claim that private information about him was being leaked to the press was true.
Andrew Green, MGN representative, revealed in court that the Daily Mail “unreservedly apologizes and accepts that [Harry] is entitled to appropriate compensation” after spying on him in order to obtain information and publish stories about him. According to David Sherborne, the Duke of Sussex suffered constant harassment and he had to distance himself from his loved ones.
“Harry became immediately suspicious of anyone named in stories about him and felt that he could not trust anybody, even at such a young age. It caused great challenges in his relationship with his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy, and made him fear for his and her safety. They also caused their circle of friends to become smaller and smaller, meaning that friendships were lost entirely unnecessarily, and led to huge bouts of depression and paranoia.”
MGN’s apology confirms that Prince Harry’s declarations against the newspaper were true. As a result, he is quickly gaining support from the public and this could become the first step in his redemption.
