There are only a few weeks left before the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla Parker, the first coronation in almost 70 years, when Queen Elizabeth II was in charge of the monarchy at a very young age.

For that reason, several personalities and attendees will be present at the coronation, among them Pope Francis, who presented King Charles with a personal gift as a representative of the Catholic Church.

As the highest representative of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis presented King Charles III with two splinters of the cross on which Jesus is believed to have been crucified. The relics were embedded in a silver Welsh Cross that will be used by the monarch in his upcoming procession on May 6th.

The British Ambassador to the Holy See, Chris Trott, communicated through a prominent tweet that: “they are deeply moved and grateful to Pope Francis for this extraordinary gift“.

The gift reflects the strength that the relationship between the Holy See and the UK have developed over the course of the reign of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who met 5 popes“, added the source. The two slivers, one of 1 centimeter and the other of 5 millimeters, was placed in the shape of a cross inside the silver Welsh cross behind a glass, and on top of a rose quartz gemstone.

This detail demonstrates the good relationship that exists between the United Kingdom and the maximum representative of the Catholic Church, which will also give a little popularity to this new reign of the monarch that has been full of controversy.
