The latest visit of Prince Harry to London may have been the trigger for the final break between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family. King Charles III was outraged that Harry involved the royals in the lawsuit against the Daily Mail editors.
Although things were not going well because of the publication of the Spare memoir, there was talk of a possible marriage on the occasion of the coronation on May 6th. But it all went sour when the Duke of Sussex arrived at a preliminary hearing in his case against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) for illegal information gathering. There, Harry again made an attack on the royals.
In a witness statement inside the court file, Harry alleged that “the royals undoubtedly withheld information from him for a long time,” in relation to the alleged phone hacking. Prince Harry also said in his statement that he was “conditioned to accept” the monarchy’s policy which was “never complain, never explain.”
.
Royal expert Daniela Elsner commented that “almost immediately after news of Harry’s return to London broke on Twitter, Telegraph reported that His Majesty was ‘too busy’ to see his son, a line that was rather hard to believe given that he had just had his visit to France canceled.”
Elser added that a friend of the monarch revealed that Harry’s decision to drag his family into his legal fight “seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for His Majesty.”
The King’s friend said, “Harry has torpedoed any chance with this statement. The coronation is only six weeks away and this is the last thing Charles needs. Trust has been broken and I think that was made quite clear when the King refused to meet Harry.”
