An further earthquake was noted this past Saturday, February 18, in the middle of the misery the Turkish people are currently experiencing.
The earthquake, which occurred 13 kilometers from the province of Göksun in central Turkey, had a magnitude of 5.2, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
The EMSC also noted that this earthquake was 54 kilometers away from Kahramanmaras, the location of the 7.8 earthquake that struck on February 6, and that it was 10 kilometers deep.
Authorities have not yet confirmed any damage from the 5.2 earthquake but have published recordings of witnesses who were able to record its size. It is known that Syria and Lebanon felt the effects of this earthquake.
The EMSC advised people to stay away from damaged structures for their safety in case new aftershocks occur, but it is currently unknown if the rescuers had to stop after 220 hours of work due to this movement that could pose a risk to continuing pulling people out of the rubble. “Be careful and follow the instructions of local authorities,” they insisted.
It is also known that many rescue campaigns around the world have come to the aid of the people of Turkey who are going through a devastating time.
Let’s hope that Turkey will soon recover from the terrible moment it has experienced.
