Ticketmaster to be investigated after Taylor Swift concert tickets chaos
After the controversy that arose due to the failed sale of tickets for Taylor Switf’s upcoming tour, Ticketmaster will be investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice for abuse of power and monopolistic activities.
Two sources close to the company told The New York Times that the authorities initiated an investigation against Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation Entertainment Inc, to corroborate if they have a monopoly in the entertainment world
This, after thousands of users reported having problems when purchasing tickets for ‘The Eras’s Tour’, the next tour that Taylor Swift will give in the United States, causing many to run out of tickets.
In addition to the investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, top officials from the cities of Nevada, Tennessee and Pennsylvania have opened their own investigations into the matter.
Nevada Attorney General Josh Shapiro posted a tweet inviting those affected to file complaints against Ticketmaster. Following his message, the Democrat thanked people for their cooperation and affirmed that he has “many complaints” to review
The attorney general of Tennessee, Jonathan Skrmetti, indicated that there are no accusations against the company, but that it was his obligation to investigate the issue so that the rights of consumers are respected.
“At this time there are no allegations of misconduct, but as attorney general it is my responsibility to ensure that consumer protection and antitrust laws are enforced in Tennessee,” he said during a meeting with the press.
As for the Nevada attorney general’s office, they limited themselves to revealing that they will begin their investigations against Ticketmaster for “alleged deceptive or unfair business practices”.
It is worth noting that the company released a statement on the situation, after Taylor Swfit made a forceful claim for the collapse in ticket sales for her tour.
“We strive to make purchasing tickets as easy as possible for fans, but that has not been the case for many people trying to purchase tickets for Taylor Swift The Era’s Tour. First, we want to issue an apology to Taylor and all of her fans, especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets,” they explained.
