Among the eligibility criteria to be nominated for an award, according to the VMAs, they only apply to artists who released new music in the past year. Netizens say that by including BLACKPINK, which has been on hiatus for a year and 10 months, the award show violates its own rules.

Blackpink’s virtual concert “The Virtual” which was released on July 23th this year was nominated for the “Best Metaverse Performance” award, which also does not meet the supposed eligibility period.
