In the recent biography by Tom Parker Bowles, published under the name ‘Rebel King: The Making of a Monarch‘, it is revealed that King Charles III ‘trembled‘ and ‘shrieked‘ when he saw this basic kitchen item for the first time in his life.
It seems that of all the places in the palace, the least visited by the king is the kitchen, as the anecdote revealed by Bowles about the monarch states that “he walked into the dining room and shrieked” when he saw a kitchen item and added, “Fearing the worst, Camilla dashed in after him“.
When the Queen was finally in the kitchen, her husband asked her, “What’s this?” While pointing to the food, what made the situation amusing for those who learned of the anecdote after reading the biography of the Queen’s son was Camilla’s response, “It’s cling film, darling“, as this made evident the naivety of King Charles III.
This showed that despite being the head of England and having traveled all over the world, there are still things that the king does not know at his 74 years old, especially when it comes to kitchen utensils, as it is an area apparently unknown to him.
