According to the Daily Mail, a recent auction has revealed a letter that King Charles III wrote many years ago talking about an “unbearable emptiness” after the death of Princess Diana, who was his wife for many years.

The letter handwritten by the monarch to Peter Houghton describes the feeling and ‘unbearable emptiness‘ he experienced after the tragic death of Princess Diana in Paris, news that, according to the then Prince of Wales, made his own heart “bleed” for “the loss of his beloved Liz“.

King Charles III’s frustration was evident when he wrote that he “wished to wave a magic wand to transform the situation“, showing that although about four months had passed, Diana’s death was something extremely difficult for everyone to overcome.

In the monarch’s mind, he could not fathom the idea that his ex-wife at the age of 36 was no longer on this plane and addressed his ‘bewilderment and confusion that accompanies the removal of someone so young from the world‘. This letter was on Highgrove House letterhead and dated December 8th, 1997, and was sold at auction for $2,000.
