Prince Harry is getting real about why Meghan Markle won’t be making any trips back to the U.K. anytime soon. In a revealing interview for ITV’s documentary Tabloids on Trial, which premiered on July 25, the Duke of Sussex unveiled some major security concerns he has for his family:
NEW: Prince Harry claims he “will not” bring his wife, Meghan Markle, back to the UK over fears for both their safety.
He has told an ITV documentary “it only takes one lone actor [who reads negative stories about H&M in the press] with a knife or acid.”

“It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read. And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”
Previously, the Duke of Sussex shared that he “felt forced” to step down from his royal duties and leave the U.K. due to security worries for his family. After the former royals decided to step back from the monarchy, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) revoked the couple’s right to U.K. police security.
However, Prince Harry is planning to appeal this decision. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said:
“The Duke is not asking for preferential treatment, but for a fair and lawful application of RAVEC’s own rules, ensuring that he receives the same consideration as others in accordance with RAVEC’s own written policy,”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to California in 2020, settling into their new life. While the Prince has returned to the UK several times, Meghan Markle has not been back since September 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Similarly, their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were seen in the UK for the last time in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
