After the alarming diagnosis of cancer of the current monarch, a great new question has arisen from the supporters of the British royals: What would happen to Queen Camilla if King Charles III dies? According to some experts, the protocol is quite clear on the matter.

While it is true that the late monarch Elizabeth II requested that Camilla Parker be recognized at the time as queen consort, Charles, upon ascending the throne, decided to remove that adjective, so now everyone addresses her simply as Queen Camilla.

That is why, after an unforeseen death of her husband, the royal will hold the title of ‘Queen Dowager‘, which would give her a secondary role in the British monarchy, allowing the ascent to the next in line to the throne, which in this case would be Prince William, who is considered the legitimate heir.

Camilla Parker would not have the title of Queen Mother since she does not share any blood relationship with the heirs, and she would not be able to continue on the throne as sole monarch since consanguinity is fundamental. That is why only the descendants of King Charles have the privilege to accede to the throne.
