The United Kingdom had elections for the Prime Minister on July 4, which resulted in King Charles III welcoming Labour Party leader Keir Starmer to Buckingham Palace to appoint him as the new U.K. Prime Minister.

Starmer became the Prime Minister following his landslide victory over Rishi Sunak. According to the U.K. Parliament, the British monarch traditionally meets with the departing prime minister before the incoming premier comes in for a private audience.

On July 5, Sunak arrived at Buckingham Palace and tended his resignation at around 10:30 local time. Subsequently, Starmer traveled to the Palace accompanied by his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer. They had a private audience for King Charles III to ask the new prime minister to form an administration.

Kier Starmer becomes the third person to hold the position of Prime Minister since King Charles III ascended to the throne within 2 years. In comparison, Queen Elizabeth II saw a total of 15 prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Truss during her 70-year-old reign.
