This Wednesday, it was confirmed that finally, after four long years of waiting, it was King Charles III who majestically received the emperors of Japan, and they became the first guests of the monarch since his cancer diagnosis was revealed.

Naruhito and Masako of Japan had planned this trip to London since 2020; however, the pandemic did not allow it to take place. Now, in 2024, and with a new British monarch, the highest authorities of the Asian countries have decided to complete this meeting to solidify their bilateral alliance.

King Charles III wore everything from a golden wagon to a banquet in honor of the Emperors to a necklace of the Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum, Japan’s highest distinction, making sure to have many meaningful gestures with his guests to make them feel welcomed.

The Japanese felt right at home as they were even transported in the Ascot Landau, an open-top horse-drawn carriage with high seats from the 19th century that is used only for extremely important events. Both monarchies were happy throughout the event and, as a result, strengthened an important alliance.
