It seems that this year would start quite complicated for the entertainment industry, and we have to accept that right now Tiktok is one of the most famous platforms worldwide, so being part of it is essential for any business or growing artist, but apparently that would not matter for Universal, who by not reaching an agreement, they would be withdrawing all their music from the platform. That means goodbye to all of Taylor Swift’s music at this time.
All Taylor Swift’s music will leave Tiktok
The news has come as a shock to the entire entertainment industry, and especially the creators of Tiktok, who for many years have been using Universal’s licensed audios, and now the videos will be compromised due to the licensing changes.
In a copyright dispute, Universal Music Group has threatened to pull its music from TikTok. If this happens, more than a billion people would be left unable to stream the vast repertoire of songs from artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Rihanna, among others. In a statement released on Tuesday, Universal stated that its licensing agreement with TikTok expires on Wednesday. The statement was titled “An open letter to the artist and songwriter community why we should call time on TikTok.” CNN did not respond to a request for additional comment. In its “contract renewal talks with TikTok,” Universal has made “adequate compensation” for its artists and songwriters a priority. TikTok users can embed music in their videos.
“They have chosen to walk away from the powerful support of a platform with over a billion users that serves as a free vehicle for promotion and discovery for their talent,” TikTok said in a statement.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think Universal will collaborate with Tiktok again?
