Recent reports pointed out that Queen Letizia accepted an official portrait by Annie Leibovitz, who stripped Elizabeth II of her most important garment. The Spanish monarch seems to want the talent of this artist to elevate her family image, as the photographer did with the Windsor household in the past.
No one could be better for the job of portraiting King Felipe and his wife than Leibovitz, the most expensive, the most demanded, the most copied in the last 50 years, and the most sophisticated photographer in her sector.
In addition, the 74-year-old woman, during her career, worked with legendary artists and for renown magazines such as The Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. For that reason, it was not a surprise that she was hired by the British royalty to take a photo of the late Queen.
Due to the aesthetic of Annie Leibovitz’s pieces, during her session with Queen Elizabeth II in 2007, she asked her to take off her crown to show in front of the camera just what she is: an old woman, but many sources assured that the monarch did not agree with the artist’s demands.
In 2016, the Queen went in front of the Leibovitz camera again, this time without the crown, posing as a grandmother with her grandchildren. The intention of the photographer was to show the person behind the title by making the royals connect with the population, exactly what Queen Letizia is looking for.
