(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon is done playing nice! On a recent variety show, she clapped back at Korea’s unrealistic expectations of K-pop idols when they become adults, especially when it comes to smoking, drinking, and dating. Her message? We’re adults, not robots.
Sitting down alongside SE SO NEON’s Soyoon, Soyeon called out the hate idols face for doing perfectly legal adult things. “Smoking isn’t illegal,” she said bluntly. “Adults can smoke, adults can drink.” She then roasted the idea that idols can’t date, saying that love is as natural as breathing.
(G)I-DLE's Soyeon opens up about smoking and dating rules among kpop idols:
"One of the things people think is bad but isn't, is smoking. Smoking isn't illegal. Adults can smoke, adults can drink. If someone wants to date, they should." pic.twitter.com/JT1oaFgWa1

The (G)I-DLE member admitted that idols face real consequences for having a life. “You don’t have to hide it,” she said about dating, but she prepared for the “consequences,” she said. The “Señorita” hitmaker said that idols often have no privacy, and she’s not wrong—Some K-pop stars have their every move treated like a scandal. This is not the first time Soyeon has given strong opinions on taboo topics in South Korea! Last year, she mentioned the double standard for men talking about sexual themes in their music and defended LGBTQ people.
