Katy Perry, the renowned pop singer, famous for hits like “Teenage Dream” and “Roar”, is set to embark on a historic journey into space as part of Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission, scheduled for April 14, 2025, today.
This mission will feature an all-female crew, marking the first such flight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963. The crew includes Perry, journalist Gayle King, the fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, among others. This goes very well with the feminist agenda that Katy herself has been promoting with her latest musical releases, such as “Woman’s World”.
The primary goal of the mission is to inspire future generations, particularly young girls, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Perry, known for her philanthropic efforts and advocacy for children’s rights, hopes her participation will encourage others to “reach for the stars, literally and figuratively”. Best part of it all is, it’s going to be streamed worldwide for the public! The launch will be held at 7:00 EST, and you can watch it following this link:
The suborbital flight will last approximately 11 minutes, reaching an altitude of 62 miles above Earth, and will provide the crew with a unique perspective of our planet. Let’s hope Katy Perry has a camera to take a few selfies with the view.
