Azealia Banks has stepped into the spotlight yet again for comments toward BLACKPINK’s Lisa. On March 1, a fan asked the rapper what she thought about Lisa’s brand-new album, “Alter Ego.” She then simply responded, “I don’t listen to k-pop,” stirring chatter, especially given that Lisa isn’t Korean but Thai, and that her album is entirely in English.

But Banks has never been shy about sharing controversial opinions. Over the years, she’s famously had feuds with everyone from pop stars to hip-hop artists, leading fans to accuse her of doing it for fame. Most recently, she also called out luxury fashion houses for allegedly prioritizing K-pop idols over hip-hop artists, calling them “garbage k-pop stars.”
Sidebar: how the fuck are all these garbage k-pop stars getting all this love from notoriously racist European fashion houses before the plethora of hiphop artists who have been showing love, driving their sales and immortalizing them in song for the last three decades?

Fans quickly jumped online to defend Lisa, calling the dismissal of her album and her nationality a racial issue. And while the controversy hasn’t escalated to the point of Banks posting more tweets, it is highly unlikely that she’ll apologize or tone down on her comments, as she has never done so in past online feuds.
