PLAVE is a virtual boy band, which means it has a real person behind the character instead of artificial intelligence. The real person signs while technology is used to make the character move and dance. However, some K-Netizens don’t agree with their success, particularly in the Billboard charts due to their virtual condition.
On February 19, Billboard revealed that PLAVE’s song, “Dash,” ranked No. 195 on the Global 200 chart. This entry marks a legendary moment for the Kpop scene as PLAVE became the first virtual boy band or idol to make it onto the chart.
The Global 200 is ranked based on online streaming and digital sales in over 200 countries worldwide. VLAST explained the impact PLAVE has had in the music industry over the last couple of months in a short statement:
“The group received a positive response on the day of the album’s release on domestic sites and doubled the monthly listeners on Spotify within two weeks. It truly proves their global influence beyond Korea.”
