Boris Johnson has never held back, especially when it came to King Charles lll– A new book by political writer Tim Shipman, “Out: How Brexit Got Done and the Tories Were Undone,” spills the royal tea on Johnson’s take on the King’s stance on Britain’s colonial history. It looks like he wasn’t exactly thrilled about Charles’ “woke” perspective.
The book reveals that before Queen Elizabeth passed, Charles (then the Prince of Wales) voiced his opinion on the government’s controversial plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, calling it “appalling.” This apparently didn’t sit well with Johnson, who was all about enforcing the policy. At the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, King Charles was allegedly concerned that his move would create tension.
Previously, King Charles expressed a desire to acknowledge the U.K.’s colonial past and the horrors of slavery, a choice sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement. Johnson was reportedly in disagreement with what he saw as a “woke ideology” infiltrating in the monarchy.
