In a surprising, and kind of funny turn of events, Olivia Rodrigo found herself at the center of an online hate wave after multiple confused football fans left harsh comments on her Instagram account.
The confusion was caused by the recent Ballon d’Or awards, where football player Vinicius from the Real Madrid Football Club was nominated but ultimately lost to a player named Rodri. In their frustration, Real Madrid and Vinicius’ fans flooded Olivia Rodrigo’s profile with hate comments, confusing her Instagram account with Rodri’s.

Olivia, a Grammy-winning artist known for her heartbreaking lyricism and relatable storytelling, inadvertently became the target for the anger generated from a polemic that had nothing to do with her. Many fans expressed their disbelief over the absurdity of the situation, but mostly, people took the incident as a rather funny mishap that will not affect the career of neither of the three names involved, not Vinicius’, nor Rodri’s, nor Rodrigo’s.

Social media has since then been filled with posts about the situation with funny comments about Vinicius’ fans inability to locate the Instagram account of the football player and outbranching into leaving comments such as “You stole the Ballon d’Or!” to a pop star currently promoting the movie premiere of her concert movie, “The GUTS World Tour Movie”, available on for stream on Netflix.
What do you think about this? Do you find it funny or do you think there should be consequences to those involved in the hate wave?
