Lady Gaga’s new song “Disease”: Lyrics and meaning

Lady Gaga, the queen of pop of her generation has officially returned to the music scene with “Disease”, an infectious love song with a rather dark approach to what we call unconditional love.

The song serves as the first single of the American singer’s new album, which is allegedly set to be released in February 2025, though no date has been confirmed. It also gives a first taste of the musical direction Gaga is taking for this upcoming project, which, judging from the newly released track, is a revamped take on her niche sound from the late 2000’s and early 2010’s: strong electropop songs with dark lyrics.

In the lyrics, Gaga presents herself as a cure to her lover’s disease, which is described by the symptoms, such as “beggin’ for life”, “poison on the inside” and “plagued with memories”, which could mean a myriad of different real life illnesses, especially mental ones.
