SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu recently took to Weverse to spill the tea about the group’s newly unveiled animated characters. And while these characters were supposed to add a funny, quirky vibe to the group’s upcoming era, fans had a lot to say—especially about Mingyu’s very “unique” choice. So, what’s the deal?

Mingyu confessed with a mix of humor and embarrassment that he personally designed his character, Minja, who is literally a potato. Yep, you heard that right! Amid fans’ mixed reactions, he apologized, saying, “I’m sorry Carats, I chose the potato,” adding that it was all just for fun, but he’s admittedly feeling a little “embarrassed” about it.

Apparently, when the SEVENTEEN member was asked about the design, he revealed that the members themselves created all the characters, and he picked this potato persona when his hair was super short. However, some fans aren’t entirely sold on Minja, with some blaming PLEDIS Entertainment (SEVENTEEN’s agency) for their questionable design choices.

The animated characters, part of SEVENTEEN’s promo for their upcoming mini album” SPILL THE FEELS,” dropping October 14, 2024, with a fresh teaser titled “Speak Up.”
