Despite always having a good attitude and unmatched confidence at every public appearance, Princess Diana felt she was not enough amid King Charles‘ affair, according to a close friend.
The Princess’ dance teacher, Anne Allen, wrote in her memoirs that the princess always told her how she felt, saying on multiple occasions, “I don’t understand why I am not enough for him“. She also added that one of the most recurring thoughts of the then Princess of Wales was, “Why does he not love me? I really don’t understand“.
After learning of King Charles’ infidelity, Princess Diana turned to her friend and dance teacher, saying, “I just don’t know what to do, Anne. I find myself in an unbearable situation“, confessing that their relationship had run its course: “There’s no affection between us, and I am always on my own“.
In spite of the heartbreaking pain the late princess felt, she was willing to forget how inferior her husband’s affair made her feel, as she assured Allen, “Keeping my family together is the most important thing to me“. However, she had only one desire, and she revealed it to her teacher: “I just want to be loved“.
