BTS’ Suga has received mixed reactions from the South Korean media outlets and K-Netizens over his infamous DUI incident. The consequences of the idol’s actions go beyond anyone could have imagined, including a possible exclusion from the idol to represent Samsung Electronics as a global ambassador.
On August 28, an insider familiar with Samsung Electronics’ internal discussion made a series of revelations. The insider stated it doesn’t matter how popular an idol can be, or how many fans support him, the company is not ready to revolve around controversy.
“Regardless of the fandom’s size, there are significant risks in maintaining a figure embroiled in social controversy as a brand ambassador. A careful review is necessary.” However, this doesn’t mean Suga will be immediately removed from advertisements. The contract is with BTS as a whole, which complicates immediate actions unless Suga leaves the group. It’s a situation that requires ongoing observation.”
The controversy escalated dramatically after Samsung Germany deleted promotional photos of BTS’ Suga holding the Galaxy S24 ultra from their official “X” account on August 17. Samsung Electronics hasn’t released any official statement regarding BTS’ Suga’s possible exclusion from the teamwork. Only time will tell what’s going to happen with the idol.
