On August 16, KBS, a major South Korean broadcasting channel, issued a statement to Ilgan Sports addressing the possibility of banning SUGA from their programs. While the BTS member is still under investigation, no decision has been made yet about having the Broadcast Appearance Review Committee discuss his future on national TV.
The committee has the authority to ban celebrities involved in illegal activities or other controversies. Allegedly, the committee is taking a cautious and slow approach in this case by highlighting that SUGA’s social work and military enlistment could influence their verdict.
Following the DUI incident on August 6, the BTS member issued an apology and fans have voiced their support. However, the channel emphasized it will wait for the police’s final findings in the investigations before proceeding with any definitive moves. Historically, KBS has banned different K-pop stars and K-actors from their broadcasts after controversies in activities deemed harmful to the public.
As of now, SUGA’s fate on Korean television hangs in the balance, with fans and the public eagerly awaiting further developments in the case. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be unfolding at a rapid pace, causing intrigue among ARMY (that’s the name of BTS fans).
