TXT’s Yeonjun found himself in hot water after sharing—and quickly deleting—photos from a recent Japan trip on Korea’s National Liberation Day. This day marks South Korea and North Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule. For that reason, sharing something Japan-related on this day is a big no.
The TXT member quickly realized the gravity of the situation and took to Weverse and Instagram to post a heartfelt apology. He acknowledged his “carelessness” and expressed regret for posting the photos without considering the importance of the day. In addition, he promised to reflect on his mistakes and be more mindful next time.
Korean Liberation Day is commemorated on August 15, and it serves as a time of reflection and respect in South Korea. It observes the end of 35 years of Japanese occupation and the founding of the country. Yeonjun’s apology is a reminder of the importance of this day.
Meanwhile, other K-pop stars like Stray Kids’ Felix and NCT Dream‘s Jaemin have been surrounded by similar controversy. Coincidentally, both idols posted Japan-related content on Korean Liberation Day, making this a common situation among some idols.
