Sabrina Carpenter released one of the most indisputable bops this year! “Espresso,” the main single from her upcoming album “Short n’ Sweet” debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, the song has spent 16 weeks in the tally, reaching a peak of No. 3. The track also had dazzling performances at Coachella and Saturday Night Live, making Sabrina Carpenter the ultimate artist to watch.
But guess what? “Espresso” almost did not make it as a single! In a recent interview with Variety, the 25-year-old singer revealed that the big fish in her label were not too convinced about dropping this track as a single. Actually, it kind of looked like she was the only one advocating for the fun-pop anthem to become the starting point of her new era.
“I was completely alone in wanting to release ‘Espresso.’ Not so much from my immediate team. But when it came to ‘the powers above,’” she air-quoted, “there was a lot of questioning behind whether it made sense. But they trusted me in the end, and I was happy that I believed in myself at that moment.”
And the rest is history! “Espresso” has gone on to become one of the biggest songs this year, propelling Sabrina Carpenter’s career to a new height. The track officially made her an A-lister in the music industry, sparked interest in the follow-up single “Please Please Please” and set up expectations for the release of her album, out on August 23.
