According to a new book by royal expert Robert Jobson, Kate Middleton reportedly considered turning down the role of Princess of Wales for an unexpected reason, as making a decision she felt comfortable with took much time.
According to Jobson, “She knew she’d inevitably be compared with Diana, whose untimely death had provoked such a tsunami of anger and grief. And she was right“. After considering multiple options, William’s wife was completely overwhelmed because the subject was discussed daily in the royal household.
“Kate found all such talk stressful. Indeed, it got to the point where she felt she might follow Camilla (who opted to become Duchess of Cornwall) in refusing when the time came to be known as HRH Princess of Wales“, says Jobson, yet when the time came, Kate Middleton made the right decision.
In the book, they explain that “enough time had passed to make the title more palatable, and Catherine had been on the world stage long enough to be appreciated for her own qualities“. It was also revealed that she “accepted her promotion with good grace, out of respect for her husband and the King“, who considered it was the most appropriate.
