Meghan Markle’s comments about Princess Charlotte reportedly created a lasting rift with Kate Middleton, one that is probably affecting their relationship today. Despite both of them entering the royal family as outsiders, they struggled to form a close bond.
It was during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s wedding in May 2018 that things took a sour turn. As the wedding came closer, tensions became more evident with initial reports claiming that Meghan made Kate Middleton cry during a disagreement over bridesmaid dresses. However, it was later revealed that the Duchess of Sussex had been the one to cry.
Royal author, Tom Bower, further explains the ins and outs of the relationship between the two women in his book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors.” The writer claimed that Meghan Markle could’ve sparked the rift by comparing Princess Charlotte unfavorably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney’s daughter, Ivy. This remark might have strained the relationship forever.
"That’s really why I wrote the book – because I just thought this woman is really doing something quite dreadful to Britain."

This incident could be just one of many contributing to the tension Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton experienced while they worked together as royals. Fast forward to 2020, both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle abandoned their roles in the monarchy and are living a calm life in Montecito, California.
