Red Velvet are under scrutiny for taking inspiration from “Midsommar” for new music video

Red Velvet‘s new comeback “Cosmic” is turning heads, but not all in a good way! Users have been quick to find the uncanny resemblance to the horror movie “Midsommar.” The music video is sprinkled with scenes of flower crowns and maypole dances, channeling some serious midsummer vibes. Unsurprisingly, it wraps up with a nod to the film, saying: “This video is inspired by Midsommar.”

Unfortunately, not everyone is thrilled about these references, especially the ever-critical Internet connoisseurs. Some of them are criticizing Red Velvet for allegedly “cloning” the horror film, while some other fans feel the music video did not weave “Midssomar” into the extensive Red Velvet universe. In the past, the group has been all about clever references, but it looks like the most recent ones are not as popular among fans.

With such a strong string of hits, from “Psycho” to “Feel My Rhythm,” fans had sky-high expectations for the group’s 10th-anniversary comeback song. However, for some, “Cosmic” fell short due to heavily relying on “Midsommar.” Meanwhile, Red Velvet continues promoting this song, making moves on South Korean music shows.
