Beverly Hills recently buzzed with fashion excitement at an auction last Friday! That’s because Princess Diana’s personal treasures went under the hammer, fetching astronomical sums. It’s clear that The Late Princess and her fashion collection are nothing short of chic and expensive.
The sale, dubbed “Princess Diana’s Elegance & A Royal Collection,” featured 200 royal family items. Unsurprisingly, Diana’s dazzling wardrobe took center stage with auctioneers paying huge sums for her designer gowns. Her favorite fashion houses—Victor Edelstein, Caroline Charles, and Catherine Walker—were well-represented.
The first standout? That was a pink floral silk shirt dress by Catherine Walker, worn by Diana to Prince William’s sports day in 1988 and again at Prince Harry’s school in 1992. The dress was sold for a jaw-dropping £352,000. The show continued with a magenta silk and lace off-the-shoulder evening dress by Victor Edelstein, which was sold for £720,000, four-and-a-half its original sum.
But here’s the star of the auction: a midnight blue strapless dress by Murray Arbeid, which Princess Diana wore twice to the Phantom Of The Opera premiere in 1986 and a Royal Opera House performance of Cinderella in 1987. It was sold for an impressive £617,000, and it is said to be one of Princess Diana’s favorite gowns ever.
