Prince William tries not to laugh at King Charles lll’s Pokémon joke

Okay, royal followers, get ready for some fun tea! King Charles lll has been spectacularly stepping back into the royal spotlight. Most recently, he hosted a state banquet for Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan. During the event, he decided to share a speech, which was all kinds of fun with Japanese pop culture references, including Pokémon.

Yes, you read that right! As the monarch of the United Kingdom gave some special words to the Japanese Emperor and Empress, he found time to feature some of the most hilarious examples. He even brought up his grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who could probably be familiar with the franchise. Prince Archie and Prince Lilibet could also be, but they do not live together with the King in the UK.

“I am only sorry to report that I haven’t had any better luck with more recent attempts at fishing — the Pokémon phrase ‘gotta catch ’em all’ may resonate with my grandchildren, but for me, it is, perhaps, aspirational.”

As King Charles lll delivered his funny speech, his son, Prince William, could not help but giggle a little. As the royal cameras focused on the Prince of Wales, he tried hard not to laugh, but a subtle smile was still drawn on his face. Who thought a Pokémon reference could be so effective to make the heir to the throne laugh?
