Tamayo Perry, a lifeguard and surfer, mostly known for his participation in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” tragically died following a shark attack. The actor was surfing near Goat Island on Oahu’s North Shore, and the incident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Sunday. The World Surfer League expressed their sentiment on social media, saying:
Honolulu Emergency Services Department’s representative, Shayne Enright, detailed at a press conference that Perry was pulled from the water by the Honolulu Ocean Safety. A jet ski was used to rescue his body and he was later pronounced dead upon reaching the shore. Honolulu Ocean Safety acting chief Kurt Lager said about the lifeguard’s passing:
“Perry was a lifeguard loved by all. He’s well known on the North Shore. He’s a professional surfer known worldwide. Tamayo’s personality was infectious and, as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.”
Besides playing a buccaneer in “Pirates of the Caribean,” he also extended his acting job into other films and TV shows. This includes appearances in “Lost” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Crush,” and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” His tragic death is the first fatal shark encounter in Hawaii this year, typically the islands experience around seven to eight shark incidents annually.
