One Direction is arguably the most famous boy band to grace the music industry in the last few years. In their incredibly fructuous but very few years working together, the five members of the group managed to release five albums, with which they amassed a huge fanbase that allowed them to do stadium tours only 2 years into their career. Their success was put to a halt when they released their latest album in 2015 and immediately went on a “hiatus” that has lasted almost a decade. The millions of fans that used to crowd stadiums all around the world were left wondering about the possibility of the 5 members assembling again for a comeback, and Simon Cowell, the man responsible for creating the group, just spoke about the chances of a reunion.
One Direction was created in The X Factor, a reality TV show that allows talented singers to participate for a contract with a record label. All of the members of One Direction were about to be eliminated when they auditioned individually, but were allowed to continue in the competition as a group of five. They didn’t end up winning the tv show but still got a contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco Records.
During a recent interview, Cowell spoke about the group, and mentioned a few things. It is clear that he does have interest in using the brand name and reuniting them, however, he does not legally own the brand name, which he admits was a mistake. Most importantly, he mentioned that one of the few goals he had with the group was to get at least ten hit songs, so that in the future they could reunite and do a stadium tour, which he then comments was a goal that wasn’t met, and he doubts the group will ever come back. Here’s the a short video of the interview, specifically the part where he speaks about 1D.
