First, it’s been also confirmed that Charles will embrace his birthday parade, the illustrious Trooping the Colour, from the comfort of a carriage—not horseback—on June 15th. This change adds a more favorable pace to the brisk ceremonial trots, especially considering the King’s age and his current recovery from cancer.

Then, there’s the other name royal fans want to see back in the headlines: Kate Middleton. The spotlight will continue to dim slightly as the Princess of Wales opted out of the upcoming Trooping the Colour rehearsal. The rehearsal of this event, known as The Colonel’s Review won’t see Kate inspecting the troops this year. This rehearsal is held just a week before the main event, and it has celebrated the monarch’s birthday for over 260 years, so her absence will be felt.
