Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the Royal Family in 2020 brought several consequences to their social life. Although they relocated to the United States, they couldn’t reach their goals of becoming the spotlight of American society.
Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke of Westminster, who is a close friend of both Prince William and Prince Harry, is going to marry Olivia Henson in just a few weeks in June at Chester Cathedral. Although Hugh invited the two estranged brothers, Harry turned down the invitation to avoid any “awkward” encounter with the Royal Family.
Richard Fitzwilliam, a royal commentator, told to the Mirror that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are cast out from important events in the United Kingdom, including this important wedding. Fitzwilliam even stated they are not invited to any grand event in the United States, like the Met Gala, Oscars or public figure parties.
“Self-imposed exile can have a bitter taste. What comparable private function could the Sussexes be asked to? They were, after all, not invited to Barack Obama’s 60th in 2021. Though the Oscars and the Met Gala are very different, they are prestigious and they have not attended either. Optics matter if you have pretensions to be A-listers.”
