A new portrait of Kate Middleton has sparked strong criticism on social media

Princess Kate Middleton is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and well known figures in the current British monarchy, and to preserve her legacy for the future, there have been multiple pieces of art created in honor of her, some even have her image imprinted on them. Most of the times, when revealed to the public, these honorary pieces receive acclaim, however, a magazine has stirred controversy with their latest portrait of the Princess of Wales, and the opinions on the internet are very divided, leaning towards the criticism.

The portrait was painted by British-Zambian artist Hanna Uzor and was featured on the cover of the July issue of Tatler magazine, showing Princess Kate in the white Jenny Packham dress she wore at the 2022 state banquet. Of course, it did not take long for the criticisms to be voiced all through social media. Here’s the cover.

While many expressed their liking for the painting, most royal fans could not take Tatler’s cover seriously due to the way the artist had portrayed Kate. “Sorry, as much as I like the idea of putting the princess on your cover, it doesn’t look anything like her,” “I’m sorry, I admire the time and effort put into it, but that’s not the face of Princess Catherine,” were some of the comments evidencing the dissatisfaction.

Even Talk TV presenter Ian Collins reacted to what he described as a “horrible portrait,” strongly criticizing Hanna Uzor’s work. “It’s worse than I remembered when I saw it five minutes ago! Is the artist an adult?”
