Cinema lovers have had quite a busy weekend with Zendaya‘s highly anticipated film “Challengers,” and Ryan Gosling‘s “The Fall Guy.” But it looks like Europeans already got their favorite film, and let’s say results don’t favor sports and love triangles at all…
Despite a hefty promotional blitz, the box office didn’t light up as expected for Zendaya’s film. Insted, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s stunt-filled move, “The Fall Guy,” took the main role. Similarly, lesser-promoted films like “Dragonkeeper” and “Civil War” captured more audiences than “Challengers.”
For example, in Spain alone, Ryan Gosling’s flick took the lead with a whopping €904,900 on its opening, towering over the €283,987 average pulled by Zendaya’s film, co-starring Mike Fasit and Josh O’Connor, which landed in fifth place. This poses a huge contrast to the United States, where the former Disney star made a bigger splash with her flick.
However, all hope isn’t lost yet; there are still dates left for “Challengers”” to reclaim its spotlight in theaters. In addition, critics keep praising Zendaya for her acting and its original score has received a positive reception.
