The newest K-Drama, “Begins Youth,” based on the famous South Korean boy band, BTS, has received backlash from the fans. BTS’ fans, better known as ARMY. They have shown their outrage and deception because of one homophobic scene in the series.
The infamous scene includes the participation of Kim Hwan and Min Cein, who are based in BTS’ Jin and Suga respectively. Vein asks Hwan if he likes him, and Hwan uncomfortably answers with some gestures. Cein is strongly convinced Hwan is in love with him, so he asks him to stay away from him, denoting homophobic behavior.
ARMY doesn’t believe this kind of homophobic scene represents BTS at all. The fans felt betrayed because BTS members have shown several times they are open to accepting people just like they are, including their sexual orientation. “Begins Youth” has received a major backlash because of this kind of inappropriate messages.
